OSRS Saradomin Sword Guide

Saradomin Sword Guide OSRS

The Saradomin sword holds a significant role within the context of the game RuneScape, specifically in the God Wars Dungeon. As the personal weapon of Commander Zilyana, a prominent Saradominist general, it is a coveted item that players seek to obtain.

One distinctive feature of the Saradomin sword is its attack speed of 4, a rarity among two-handed weapons. This places it in alignment with the speed of commonly used melee weapons like scimitars and the abyssal whip, providing players with a versatile and effective combat option.

It's worth noting that wielding the Saradomin sword in the Bandit Camp located in the Kharidian Desert triggers hostility from the bandits in the area. This adds an interesting dynamic to gameplay, requiring players to consider the consequences of brandishing the sword in specific locations.

Where to get the Saradomin Sword?

The Saradomin Sword can be obtained as a rare drop from Commander Zilyana, the Saradominist general within the God Wars Dungeon. Commander Zilyana is one of the bosses in the Saradomin section of the dungeon. To access the God Wars Dungeon and fight Commander Zilyana, players need to have a minimum of 70 Agility.

The God Wars Dungeon is located in the northwest corner of the Trollheim area. To enter the dungeon, players need 60 Strength or 60 Agility, depending on the route they choose. It's recommended to bring a team of players to tackle the challenging bosses within the dungeon.

Additionally, the Saradomin Sword can also be obtained as a very rare drop from Commander Zilyana's bodyguards. These bodyguards, Starlight, Growler, and Bree, are minions that accompany Commander Zilyana in battle.

Special Attack and Stats

The Saradomin Sword in RuneScape features a special attack called "Saradomin's Lightning." This special attack consumes 100% of the wielder's special attack energy and offers a unique combination of effects:

1. Melee Damage Boost: Saradomin's Lightning provides a 10% boost to melee damage, enhancing the effectiveness of the sword in close combat situations.

2. Magic Damage Addition: In addition to the melee damage boost, the special attack adds 1-16 extra Magic damage to the attack. This magical damage is supplementary to the regular melee damage and is subject to its own mechanics.

3. Mechanics of the Special Attack: The special attack's melee component rolls against the opponent's Slash defence bonus, utilizing the attack bonus of the current combat stance the player is in. If the melee attack misses, the Magic attack will also fail. However, if the melee hit is successful but rolls a 0, the Magic damage will still be applied.

4. Magic Damage Mechanics: The magical portion of Saradomin's Lightning will always splash (deal no damage) when directed at players using Protect from Magic. Players receive 2 Magic experience for each point of damage caused by the extra Magic damage.

5. Exception for Cyclopes: It's noted that the Magic damage from Saradomin's Lightning will always hit 0 when used against cyclopes in the Warriors' Guild, as with all non-melee damage in that particular context.

Players can strategically use Saradomin's Lightning to maximize their damage output in both melee and magical aspects during combat. Understanding the mechanics of the special attack is crucial for optimizing its effectiveness in different situations.

Uses

The Saradomin sword in Old School RuneScape serves a unique role due to its specific attributes and attack styles. Here are some notable uses and characteristics of the Saradomin sword:

1. Similarity to Abyssal Whip:
   - The Saradomin sword is identical to the abyssal whip in terms of strength bonus, slash attack bonus, and attack speed. It also offers a secondary crush attack style.
   - Additionally, it provides a small prayer bonus, adding to its overall utility.

2. Training Strength:
   - The Saradomin sword has an "aggressive" attack style, making it suitable for training Strength. This is in contrast to the abyssal whip, which lacks an aggressive style.
   - Players seeking to maximize Strength experience gain may prefer the Saradomin sword over the abyssal whip.

3. Dual-Wielding vs. Shield/Defender:
   - While the Saradomin sword is a powerful two-handed weapon, the abyssal whip is a one-handed weapon, allowing players to use a shield or defender alongside it.
   - In situations where defensive capabilities are crucial, or when a player desires the added defensive bonuses from a shield, the whip might be the preferred choice.

4. Evolution of the Meta:
   - With the introduction of several weapons of similar tier in Old School RuneScape, the Saradomin sword has lost its status as the unequivocal "best" weapon for training Strength.
   - However, it remains a viable and cost-effective option, especially for players who value its specific characteristics.

5. Combat Pures:
   - The Saradomin sword is a popular choice among combat pures, particularly those with lower Defence levels. This is because it provides a significant strength bonus without the need for an off-hand item.
   - Its lack of a "controlled" attack style and an alternate "defensive" attacking animation can be advantageous for combat pures aiming to avoid unintentional Defence experience.

In summary, while the Saradomin sword may no longer be the top choice for training Strength in certain scenarios, it still has its niche uses, and its unique characteristics make it a preferred option for specific player builds and preferences.
