Long-tailed Wyverns are Slayer monsters that require a Slayer level of 66 in order to be harmed. They reside in the Wyvern Cave on Fossil Island. Like with other Wyverns, an elemental, mind, dragonfire or ancient wyvern shield provides significant protection against their icy breath, and they are vulnerable to the effects of dragonbane weapons. These monsters require completion of the Bone Voyage quest to be assigned as a Slayer task.
The task-only cave entrance is a trapdoor in the Mushroom Forest and the regular cave entrance is south of the Museum Camp. When a player attempts to attack wyverns in the slayer task area without a Fossil Island wyvern Slayer task, Weve (Steve's son) will stop them from doing so.
Wyverns often use the icy breath attack dealing large damage and reducing stats if a protective shield is not equipped. An Elemental Shield, Mind Shield, Dragonfire Shield, Dragonfire Ward, or Ancient Wyvern Shield must be equipped in order to fight them.
The Anti-dragon shield, Protect from Magic prayer, and antifire potions cannot be used as a substitute for the shields. As such, using two-handed weapons such as the Toxic Blowpipe or Abyssal Bludgeon is highly discouraged.
Despite offering protection from the icy breath effect, only the Ancient wyvern shield provides complete protection, preventing the accompanying freeze effect, which prevents attacking and movement. The Elemental Shield, Mind Shield, Dragonfire Shield, Dragonfire Ward will only prevent the damage and stat reductions.
Wyverns may drop Fossil Island fossils of various sizes. Both caves have a Fossil Storage box by their respective entrances.
Attack with only melee and Ice breath, so it is recommended to either range with an Ancient wyvern shield or melee with protect from melee active. Requires level 66 slayer to kill.
